When children exhibit a high level of fear of the dentist, are uncooperative, have advanced dental damage, or have general health issues or special needs, deep sedation emerges as the preferred solution embraced by compassionate dental professionals.
At TRIDENT diminutive, we have assembled a comprehensive multidisciplinary team to ensure that every child has access to necessary dental treatments.
Deep sedation is administered intravenously, typically using medications like Dormicum or Propofol. Under this sedation, the patient enters a state of complete sleep, disengaging from their surroundings and feeling no discomfort.
Before the procedure, the anesthesiologist conducts a thorough pre-anesthetic assessment, which includes reviewing the child’s medical history, conducting clinical examinations, and assessing paraclinical data such as blood tests, EKG, and, if applicable, lung X-rays.
For children, the duration of the sedation session is typically limited to two hours.
After sedation, patients are carefully monitored in a dedicated area of the clinic until they awaken, usually within 10-15 minutes. Clearance from the anesthesiologist is obtained before discharge.
We recommend that minor patients be accompanied by two adults for dental visits involving sedation.
